Famous BET award winner, Eddy Kenzo through his lawyers, Karuhanga, Tabaro & Associates has decided to sue Coca-Cola Company in court for copyright infringement.
Coca-Cola used his song “Sitya loss” and shots from the video in the campaign of “A Billion Reasons To Believe In Africa” without notifying him.
On 14th July, Eddy Kenzo had written to Coca-Cola asking that they pull down all the content and pay him at least $1 million US dollars(about Ugx 3.5Bn) as monetary compensation within 7 days. It seems Coca-cola failed to do this and thus Eddy Kenzo has decided to take them to court in what promises to be one of the biggest court cases in Uganda against a major brand.
Should Eddy Kenzo win the case, Cocacola will not only pay him 3.5 billion shillings, it will also have to pay for all expenses in pursuing the case.
Here’s an original letter that was sent out to the company last month.
