Black Friday, one of the most popular shopping events in the world, is all about deals and bargain hunting. Set to be the largest event of its kind in Africa, Jumia, the leading online shopping destination in Africa, introduced Black Friday to the African market in 2013.
Last year, Jumia reached an all-peak in sales within 24 hours and had over 1,500,000 online visitors. Over 50% of the visitors accessed the site through a mobile device via Android or iOS.
“Originally established in the U.S. more than 50 years ago, Black Friday is now a well-known sales day both in the U.S. and Europe. People go mad for it and it’s great that Jumia has brought the concept to Uganda. We’ve got mind blowing deals for our customers that we can’t wait to share!”, stated Sam Chappatte, Managing Director of Jumia’s New Countries.
“Africa’s disposable income & online consumption is growing at an extraordinary rate. In Uganda, we expect to sell more in this year’s Black Friday than in the whole of 2014. But this is just the start. We are here for the long term and have plenty more surprises to come”, added Sam Chappatte.
On Black Friday, Jumia will be offering discounts on selected items in all categories: electronics, home appliances and fashion items. Last year’s Black Friday sales primarily focused on consumer electronics, with particular interest in digital products such as flatscreen TVs, digital cameras and ventilation systems. This year, Jumia predicts that it will sell a lot more fashion & cosmetics too, with great deals such as Georgio Armani shoes for 70% off!
Jumia positions itself as the leading marketplace for high-end local and international brands. They work with everyone from local fashion brands such as Gloria Wavamunno and Sylvia Owori to established mobile brands such as Tecno, Samsung and Lumia.
On Jumia’s Black Friday, you will be able to get your hands on a Samsung J1 Ace smartphone for 317,000 (that’s 10% off!) and a Lenovo A10 laptop for 601,000 (which is 15% off!).
“By tapping into this global shopping phenomenon, with the support of our partners MTN, NTV and Radiocity, we have created a powerful event that our customers will love. Bring on the 27th November!”, concluded Sam Chappatte.
