Just a few days after Ivory Coast’s head coach, Herve Renard predicted that Ghana will win their next final, the Black Stars’ coach Avram Grant has come out to set his sights on the 2017 Africa Cup of nations (AFCON) whose host nation will be named this year on 8th April at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
Ghana is among the biding countries that want to host the 2017 continental tournament. After losing to the Elephants on a 9-8 penalty shootout in the finals of the tournament on Sunday in Equatorial Guinea in his debut competition, the 60-year-old Israeli now has his sight on the 2017 AFCON. But first he will also have to guide the team through the forthcoming 2018 World cup Qualifiers that kick off later in October at the preliminary stages.
During a warm welcome back at home, Grant hailed the Black Stars’ performance at the competition and also hinted about the future of the Ghanaians that he predicts will be bright.
“For me it was a very good tournament because seeing the players come together and the performance they put up in such a short time, I think they really did well,” he told Supersport.com.
“I think we did better than in the past and we will do well in the future, I can promise you. We have laid a good foundation for the future and for me the future will be very bright and that is something I can promise you,” the Israeli added.
