Angella Katatumba’s maiden concert dubbed “Mulago Yaffe” which was held at Kampala Serena hotel on Friday evening lived up to its billing. The concert which was touted as a charity concert attracted many who made several generous contributions as the singer raised millions of shillings towards the fight against cancer.
Angella stepped on stage at around 9:30 pm amid applause from the expectant crowd. She opened up her performances with renditions from her biggest music influences like Whitney Houston, before shifting gears into her own compositions. She thrilled revelers with her songs like ‘Supernatural gal’, ‘So close’, ‘In the air’, ‘For you Gulu’ and ‘Mulago Yaffe’, which was the concert theme song, among others.
With a numbers of songs highlighting the plight of the under privileged, it was not long before she tickled the audiences’ emotional spot. The moved crowd soon started making pledges with Rajeev Ruparelia of Ruparelia Group leading the way with a 2.5 million donation. Others like Jack Pemba quickly followed suit with individuals and companies making generous pledges.
Speaking after the concert, Angella reaffirmed her commitment to the fight against cancer. “I decided to use my music to create awareness after I lost my close relatives to cancer. I want everyone to learn the importance of early cancer check-ups and with support of the Uganda Cancer constitute, I know this will one day become a reality.” She said.
